Joint sponsors BPIF, PCC and Unite the Union announce the launch of the 2008 BPIF Educational Scholarships programme designed to assist young people in funding education and training in pursuit of a career in the UK printing and graphic arts industries.

The Scholarship Scheme, comprising of 12 awards, each of £2500. is open to all young people aged 16-30 who are resident in the UK. Applications are to be made in writing, on official application forms and a shortlist is then invited for interview.

Winners in the past four years have included students on established print and print management courses, graphic design students, family employees of family owned print businesses, prepress specialists, pressroom managers and operators, PhD students and technicians from the consumables sector and publishing print production staff.

Winners have chosen to spend their award in a variety of ways including course fees, travel costs for study tours, books, computers and software.

Entries for this year close on March 31 2008, with initial judging taking place in April, short listed interviews in May and the presentation of the awards in June.

Michael Johnson, Chief Executive of the BPIF says: “The BPIF is more that happy to continue to support the Scholarships into the fifth year. I have met many of the previous recipients and have been totally amazed, and heartened, at the talent that is making its way in our industry. As I said at last year’s presentations – our industry is in the safe hands of the younger generation. Now lets find some more talent for 2008!”
